Winter is finally here and the Christmas parties are all booked and the excitement is building.  It is also the beginning of the countdown to the end of 2014 and soon we will be turning our thoughts to the year ahead.

Great Venues in the UK

We have had great feedback about Chesford Grange, Kenilworth. 

Whilst it benefits from a rural location it is very easy to get to, the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and there is a selection of adaptable meeting rooms, the largest of which can hold up to 700 delegates.  Set in 17 acres of grounds it is a perfect base for outdoor activities too.

The Royal Park Hotel London, is a lovely, boutique hotel with a comfortable homely feel.  Situated just off Hyde Park, the hotel has 48 bedrooms, the Kiyan Restaurant, the Green Room which can be used for private dining for 14 and the terrace garden which can hold a drinks reception for up to 40.  Famous for their themed afternoon teas and their approachable, can do attitude, you are sure to be treated like family here.

Destination Dublin

Continuing my research this month I found myself heading to Dublin, a vibrant city with much to offer both in terms of meeting and conference facilities and as an incentive destination.  With a choice of flights from airports in England taking around an hour it is a great destination for something a bit different.

I visited a number of hotel and venues, here are just a few.

My home for the duration of the visit was the Shelbourne Hotel which has an amazing history, being one of the oldest hotels in Dublin. 

Overlooking St Steven’s Green is NO 27, an elegant, lively bar. There is also the Horseshoe bar and The Saddle Room Restaurant.  The largest meeting room can cater for up to 450 delegates with 13 additional rooms.  This is a bustling hotel in the heart of Dublin life.

The Westbury has been described as a “handsome” hotel with a well–earned reputation for excellent food.  The Wilde Restaurant offers the best fresh, seasonal produce whilst the Balfes, with an outdoor terrace and open kitchen, makes maximum use of artisan Irish ingredients.  There are 7 boardrooms in addition to the Grafton Suite which can cater for 200 delegates and a total of 205 bedrooms.

The Doubletree by Hilton Burlington, has extensive, flexible meeting space and over 500 bedrooms.  It is located a short walk from St Stephen’s Green and approximately a 30 minute drive from the airport.

The hotel is newly refurbished and is light, bright and modern and the staff all had a ‘nothing-is-too-much–trouble’ attitude.

The Fitzwilliam hotel has a chic, modern feel with bright colours throughout.  This boutique hotel offers fewer meeting facilities with the largest room catering for 80 delegates theatre style and 2 smaller rooms.  There are 139 bright, comfortable bedrooms, and, for eating, there is the Thornton Restaurant, Inn on the Green and the Citron Restaurant.

I loved the Penthouse, with the dedicated butler John, great for informal meeting and private dining for up to 10.

In addition to these stunning hotels I also explored the Guinness Store, pouring, yes and drinking, my own pint (great as a team activity) there is also a meeting room and a bar on the top floor for private dining) and Number 10, a very exclusive private town house full of character with exceptional private space.  Taking a short journey out of Dublin I visited Malahide Castle which would make a beautiful candle lit, private dining venue, and the privately owned Grand Hotel Malahide—a light, bright venue—great for meetings & conference.  Luttrellstown Castle, perfect for exclusive use was also on my itinerary.  This is an historic building with many original features including the bathrooms!  I then took the opportunity to do a Skyline tour along the roof of Croke Park with spectacular views over Dublin (not for the faint hearted!)
